Rebecca Horn, sculpture with permanent sound installation in Naples Metro
Naples, IT (2022)

Sound piece composed for Rebecca Horn’s permanent sculpture in a Naples Metro station. Composed with voice and field recordings captured in Naples, both in public places and ancient Roman sites. As the music will greet thousands of people a day in one of Naples’ main metro stations, the composition was made to reflect the conversation of a large space for travel receiving many moving bodies in the day and then being empty at night, continuing in a loop. Voice and field recordings were slowed down and used to mimic the whistles of trains, the squeak of shoes running, the distant drones of machinery and human voices. The found sounds include preserved historical spaces, Mount Vesuvius, locals ruins, and a Roman aqueduct.

Karen Amiel, Dreams of the Alcazar
San Jose, CA, USA (2018)

Sound piece made in collaboration with Karen Amiel’s oil painting based on Diego Velázquez’s “Las Meninas”. The 40-minute ambient composition draws from the Spanish Phrygian Scale, common to music of 17th Century Spain. An improvisation was recorded with an analog synthesizer layered on top of evolving granulated voices, which were then all time-stretched to allow overtones and hidden sounds to emerge, much like the changing of memories over time.
